Poor results force Al Khor to wait for transfer window

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar Stars League (QSL) outfit Al Khor look set to pin hopes on coach Jean Fernandez for now but will wait for the transfer window to bring in reinforcements, a top club official said yesterday.
Al Khor Sports Club General Secretary Mohamed Meqled al-Merikhi said in an interview with QSL website coach Fernandez was doing his best in tough circumstances.
"Jean Fernandez is a big name in the coaching field with huge history and experience. He is functioning well as a coach. I renew my confidence in him and I believe he will lead the team to a better status in the coming period" al-Merikhi said yesterday.
Despite showing faith in retaining the coach, al-Merikhi said he isn't satisfied with the results and performance of the team.
"It is possible to perform better and win. We have lost games as a result of some individual errors and other mistakes. The team overall had to pay for those lapses," he said.
Al-Merikhi added that he is hoping for a better performance from the players during the coming phase.
He said he will soon meet the coach and decide on 'future needs' of the side.
"We are awaiting the conclusion of our next game versus Al Arabi in Round 15. We have to determine what's needed by the coach," he said.
When asked about the performances of the overseas players, al-Merikhi said: "Brazilian Madisson has no issues since he has performed steady. His compatriot Julio Cezar has started to regain his old touch whereas the third Brazilian is injured."
He added: "Korean Lee Young has started to adapt to the team's needs. We expect more from him in future games."
"Currently it is difficult to find a stable team in terms of performance and results with so many variables around. There are no less than 60% of the clubs competing to stay away from the relegation zone, not only Al Khor," al-Merikhi said.
"Winning two or three games will get us closer to the 6th or 7th positions," he said.
When asked about his side's round 15 clash against Al Arabi, al-Merikhi said: "There is no doubt that Al Arabi is one of the good teams with high-quality players as they are competing to be among the top four teams. It is going to be a tough game for both sides."
