UAE- YES to Work initiative gaining increasing momentum among students

ABU DHABI 22th December 2015 (WAM)The YES to Work Phase 6 a three-week national initiative launched by the Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ACTVET) under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs to reinforce Emirati youth employability in the private sector and create opportunities for lifelong learning has been gaining increasing momentum among Emirati students.

The programme runs each summer and winter during school breaks and involves over 800 students and 10 retail partners in more than 308 different work locations across the UAE. Students participating in YES to Work gain professional experience and specialised training in retail services.

Mubarak Al Shamsi Director of ACTVET said the initiative which was launched on 20th December 2015 through 7th January 2016 would see young Emiratis in the age group 15 - 18 engage in a professional experience in 10 industrial and commercial companies of the private sector in Abu Dhabi Al Ain Dubai Sharjah and Ajman by offering them the opportunity of a work placement and a training in retail services.

Objectives of the initiative include building the capacity of skilled Emirati youth with the sense of responsibility towards the nation qualifying young Emiratis with accredited certificates in retail services and operations encouraging young Emiratis to work in the private sector and empowering young Emiratis by providing them with specific knowledge skills and best practice through job shadowing training and apprenticeship programmes.

The participants to the YES to Work Initiative that successfully complete the three-week programme will be rewarded with a cash prize and will receive a certified qualification in retail services accredited by the UAE National Qualification Authority (NQA).
