Puma Energy donates K2m to Blantyre City Council for clean Caign

Speaking at the cheque presentation ceremony which was held at Puma Energy head offices in Blantyre the company's Sales and Marketing Manager Joseph Chafumuka said it is their responsibility as an institution existing in the city of Blantyre to contribute towards the development of the city.
'The Keep Blantyre Clean and Green campaign is a noble initiative which requires support from all well-wishing citizens' he said.
Chafumuka hailed the campaign saying it helps to adds beauty and ambiance to the commercial city.
However Chafumuka lamented that vandalism continues to be the greatest set back to efforts to develop the city.
'Our company donated some streetlights in Limbe sometime ago but it's pathetic that going to the same place today the lights have been vandalised' bemoaned Chafumuka.
Accepting the cheque on behalf of the Blantyre City Council Mayor Noel Chalamanda thanked Puma Energy for being an unwavering partner to the city's development efforts.
He also hailed the faith that individuals and companies have in the council's vision 'People in the city look up to us as an agent of change in Blantyre' said Chalamanda ' With a lot of things which need fixing in the city the donation from Puma will help us intensify the campaign'.
Mayor Chalamanda further highlighted plans to start plating trees as the rains have started
'We plan to partner with other well-wishers in a move to plant trees in our city. But our initiative will not be plating only we will also make sure the planted trees are sustained because most of the times when trees are planted three years later all of them are dead. We want to make sure we benefit from the trees we plant' said Chalamanda.
The responded to the vandalism problem as a challenge which can only be eradicated with combined efforts from all residents of the city.
'The people who vandalise our cities do not come from some caves they are the ones we live within our homes. So once you know someone who is engaged in the destruction of public property report them to the police.'
Chalamanda also said vandalism in the city is aided by residents who buy products made from the stolen materials. He cited the example of hoes which are products of street poles but people continue to buy them in the process supporting vandalism.
According to the Mayor the money donated by Puma Energy will be used to buy fuel for their fleet which collects refuse in the city.
The Keep Blantyre Clean and Green campaign which was launched in October 2014 aims at restoring the beauty of the city through rehabilitation of sewage systems cleaning rivers and managing wastes among other things.
