Jordanian Omani officials explore closer economic ties


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman Dec. 22 (Petra) -- Jordanian and Omani officials on Tuesday opened a meeting to discuss prospects to strike closer ties and cooperation between the two countries in various domains especially in the economic sphere.

The joint Jordanian-Omani committee convened its 9th session with the aim of advancing relations and build on the outcome of the last edition of the session which was held in Oman.

Today's session was chaired by Secretary-General of the Ministry of Industry Trade and Supply Yousef Shamali and Abdul Malik bin Abdullah al-Hinai Adviser at the Omani Ministry of Finance.

The committee will look into ways of boosting trade ties and removing obstacles impeding the two-way trade exchange Secretary-General of the Ministry of Industry Trade and Supply Yousef Shamali said.

Jordanian-Omani trade exchange amounted to $90.7 million in 2014 compared with $82.4 million in 2013 signaling a 10.1-per cent increase year-on-year. During the January-September period trade exchange between the two countries reached 80.4 million Shamali explained.

The Omani official said his country was keen to uplift economic cooperation with Jordan and increase investments in the Kingdom.
