(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman Dec. 22 (Petra)--Japanese Ambassador to Jordan Shuichi Sakurai said that his country deems Jordan that represents moderate Islam as key to security and stability of the region that faces many problems especially the Palestinian issue.
The ambassador added in a statement to Petra on the occasion of his country's national day that is celebrated on Wednesday that the four summits that have been held in one year between His Majesty King Abdullah II and the Japanese prime minister reflect the historic ties between the two countries. "These meetings enhanced cooperation between the two countries in various domains Ambassador Sakurai added.
On economic and trade cooperation between the two countries he said Japan's exports to Jordan stood at $559 million in 2014 while the Kingdom's exports to Japan reached $41 million.
Japan he said is exerting major efforts to bring about peace in the Middle East through the Corridor for Peace and Prosperity and through hosting the Conference on Cooperation Among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD).
Ambassador Sakurai also pointed to aid provided to the Palestinians through international organizations such as the UNRWA.
On Syria he said Japan supports a political solution to the Syrian crisis and is determined to continue humanitarian assistance to the Syrians in coordination with the international community.
The ambassador said his country appreciates Jordan's efforts to host Syrian refugees and is aware of the burden being borne by the Kingdom in this regard.
