U.S. penalty to charge BMW with USD 40mn

(MENAFN) U.S. auto safety supervisors fined BMW USD 10mn, part of a USD 40mn civil payment over the German automaker's safety gaps.

The fine is the second one to be paid by BMW and the latest in a sequence of civil penalties imposed on major automakers by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Moreover, the NHTSA charged BMW USD 3mn in 2012, and the settlement ends a NHTSA search into whether the firm failed to issue a recall over 5 days.

In addition, the USD 40mn settlement includes a USD 10mn fine, an obligation that the company spends at least USD 10mn meeting the order's performance.
