Doha: Weather charts indicate that the country will be affected by unstable weather due to the passage of a low pressure system in the upper levels of the atmosphere between Thursday evening (24-12-2015) and Sunday (27-12-2015) as skies are expected to become partly cloudy to cloudy gradually with a forecast for isolated rains of variable intensity reaching its peak on Friday and Saturday becoming thundery at times.

The country is expected to be affected by an extension of ridge of high pressure in the coming two days (Monday to Tuesday) accompanied with northwesterly winds moderate to fresh becoming strong at times over some areas with wind speeds ranging between 15-23 knots reaching 28 knots at times with a chance of blowing dust over open areas leading to a reduction in visibility to 3 km or less.

Qatar Meteorology Department also issued offshore warnings for strong winds and high waves as wave heights expected to range between 5-8 reaching 10 feet at times. The high pressure is expected to weaken on Wednesday leading to reduced wind speeds.

Monday coincides with the winter solstice which marks the shortest day of the year and the astronomical start of winter season. Temperatures will be around their regular averages during this time of the year as maximum temperatures expected to range between 22-24 degrees and minimum temperatures between 15-18 degrees.

Qatar Meteorology Department urged all to be cautious during the weather fluctuations expected in the coming days and to follow latest official weather updates and warnings through different social media channels.
