Qatar- PM with Search and Rescue Team


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Prime Minister Interior Minister and Commander of Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani with the Search and Rescue Team. The Prime Minister congratulated the Team for receiving ‘Heavy’ classification by the UN’s International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG).

Doha: Prime Minister Interior Minister and Commander of Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani called on the Search and Rescue Team to exert more efforts to maintain achievements made in the past period.

He congratulated the team for receiving ‘Heavy’ classification by the UN’s International Search and Rescue Advisory Group.

During a meeting with the team at its premises the Premier said Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani is the one who initiated the idea and issued directives to establish the team in 2004 to meet the needs of Qatar and the Asian Games 2006.

He said receiving the Group’s classification was not by chance but rather the result of efforts and arduous training. “Serving homeland is the most important priority we need a team that meets the needs of the nation during emergency” he said.

He reminded that when the team was established it comprised 40 privates and three officers. Now it has 150 officers non-commissioned officers and privates.

The team is one of Qatar’s contributions to the humanitarian work worldwide the Premier said calling on the members to carry out their responsibility and become a role model for those who would join the team in the future.

Major Abdullah Eid Al Mohannadi Head of the team said the team’s achievements would not have been possible without the Premier whose constant guidance encouraged the members to do their best and achieve such classification.

Major Al Mohannadi said the team’s achievements were hailed by all adding that they represent an addition to Qatari achievements at international forums.

The team was created to undertake major search and rescue missions in Qatar and abroad. It tasks and mandate include air sea and land rescue operations. It was involved in many disasters and crises and conducted 45 search and rescue operations in several countries.
