Qatar- Call for unified legislation for lawyers in GCC region

Doha: An annual GCC lawyers and arbitrators’ conference that concluded here yesterday has called for a unified legislation to regulate the practice of the legal profession in the region to ensure compatibility with the existing systems.

The two-day conference which was held under the patronage of the Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani ended yesterday and urged the ministries of justices in the GCC countries to back the idea of establishing a GCC-wide association for lawyers.

The participants urged the Secretary-General of the GCC ministries of justices and the chambers of commerce in the GCC states to continue their support for holding this conference on an annual basis.

The recommendations also included a demand made to authorities in the member-countries to continue supporting the lawyers associations and lawyer’s committees and involve them in discussions and drafting laws and decisions related to lawyers and the legal profession said a press release issued by Qatar Chamber.

The participants lauded the decision of Saudi Arabia to set up a national commission for lawyers. Saudi delegates at the conference extended invitation to the participants to attend the next conference in their country.
