Road Accidents down 14.9 percent in Oman in January to November

Muscat 21th December 2015 (WAM) - The Sultanate of Oman registered a significant decline in the number of road accidents in 2015 compared to the last year. Over the last 11 months of 2015 the total number of road accidents slipped to 5254 from 6171 cases reported during the same period last year marking a fall of 14.9% according to the latest figures issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

While injuries saw a decrease of 18.2% to 3036 as against 3710 in 2014 the number of deaths came down to 618 from 760 recorded a year ago indicating a drop of 18.7% Oman News Agency ONA reported.

Nationality wise there has been a considerable decline of 28.1% in the number of injuries and a fall of 23.9% in deaths among expatriates. Among nationals injuries and deaths came down by 14.7% and 15.9% respectively the NCSI report said.

Further the number of Omani males died in road accidents decreased by 10.1% to 349 while deaths among Omani females slipped 37% to 68. Among expatriates male and female deaths in road accidents decreased by 23.7% and 25% respectively with corresponding numbers standing at 180 and 21.

Coming to injuries the number of Omani males and females who had been injured in road accidents saw a fall of 12.8% and 19.7% respectively during the period. Injury figures for expatriates indicate a decline of 26.7% and 37.8% among males and females respectively.
