Turkey: HDP co leader to meet Russian FM

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) The co-leader of Turkey's Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) hassaid he will be traveling to Moscowto meet Russian Foreign Minister SergeiLavrov Wednesday.

Selahattin Demirtas who co-heads a party that receives the majority of its support inTurkish regionsmostly inhabited by Kurdsmade the announcement Saturday evening on a programaired by a local television network in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir.

"On Wednesday we will meet Foreign Minister Lavrov. We will also open a party office in Moscow" he said.

"We are influential and want to use our power" he added.

Tensions remainhigh between Turkey and Russiafollowing Turkey’s shooting down of aRussian military jetlast month over airspace violation.After the incidentRussiaimposed a range of unilateral sanctions against Turkey including a ban on food imports.
