Qatar- Turkish Military Operation Kills 68 Militants


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Ankara December 19 (QNA) - At least 68 militants of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) have been killed in ongoing operations in the southeastern province of Sirnak over the last four days.

The Turkish security forces had been launching operations in the towns of Cizre and Silopi in Sirnak province in southeastern Turkey over the last four days the state-run Anatolia news agency quoted the official as saying.

The operations also left one Turkish soldier dead and 22 other Turkish soldiers and police officers wounded according to the report.

A curfew was imposed on Cizre and Silopi on Monday. Many citizens reportedly left the district before the curfew was imposed. Turkey and the PKK have been fighting a civil war for 30 years. Peace talks collapsed this year and a two-year ceasefire broke down in July. (QNA)
