NOUAKCHOTT 18th December 2015 (WAM) --- Ambassador of the UAE to Mauritania Eisa Abdullah Al Kalbani and Mauritanian Minister of Health Ammedou Ould Hademine Ould Jelvoune on Wednesday visited the Sheikh Zayed Hospital to examine the progress of Nabadhat (heart beats) a UAE medical team treating children with congenital heart defects.

The team made up of 24 specialised doctors arrived last Thursday to start a 10-day mission to Mauritania where it has performed 23 open heart surgeries and 26 catheterisation procedures. Sixty children will benefit from the team's mission.

Ambassador Al Kalbani told reporters that the Nabadhat campaign the largest of its kind in Mauritania is one of the many initiatives of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

He said the families of the patients were extremely delighted after the life-saving procedures funded by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Establishment. He hoped that a similar charity campaign would be organised in the future in Mauritania.

The ambassador stressed that the UAE-Mauritanian relations are fraternal and strong. The Sheikh Zayed Hospital he noted reflect the high level of cooperation between the two countries.

Mauritanian officials thanked the Emirati establishment for the generous initiative which helped save tens of underprivileged children.
