TEHRAN Dec 18 (KUNA) -- Tehranis suffer these days from high pollution due to contaminating fumes puffed by cars' exhausts. The contamination has created grey smog hanging over the city ebbing visibility and forcing many of the 14 million populace to restrict venturing out of their houses only for necessities.
Authorities have advised the city residents to take precautions abstain from exercise at public places and commute by buses.
Pollution in the city is also caused by contaminating gases emanating from factories and plants. Moreover its geographic location; being sandwiched by Alborz mountains blocks wind movement thus the pollution thickens.
In recent months pollution levels in Tehran hit 162-180 degrees (regular level is 50 degrees). Schools may shut down if the contamination hits 200. (end) ma.rk
