Kuwait- Nat'l security apparatus chief meets NATO official


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT Dec 17 (KUNA) -- National Security Apparatus Chief Sheikh Thamer Al-Ali Al-Sabah met Thursday Ambassador Thrasyvoulos Terry Stamatopoulos NATO's Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy discussing with him means to bolster bilateral relations.Sheikh Thamer told KUNA that the current political and security situation in the region required collaboration amongst security bodies adding that the meeting today was held in such regard.He stressed the importance of the political advisory group meeting for the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI) which was held here on December 16-17 adding that cooperation to address the humanitarian crisis caused by regional conflicts was a must. Countering terrorism carried by the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Levant (ISIL) is also an important factor that world countries should agree upon said the official.The ICI launched by NATO was established in 2004 as a security initiative to address challenges in the Middle East. Kuwait expressed desire to host the regional center for NATO's ICI. The center is expected to be opened in the last quarter of 2016. (end) hmd.gta
