Jordan takes part in UN summit of finance ministers


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) New York Dec.17 (Petra) -- Jordan's Finance Minister Omar Malhas Thursday will take part in the first-ever summit of the finance ministers of the UN security Council to be held in New York.

The meeting will discuss and dry up financial resources of terror groups mainly the Daesh terrorist group. It also aims at expanding opportunities to strengthen global efforts to achieve this goal.

US Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew will chair the meeting expected to adopt a resolution designed to choke off terror groups funds .

Cutting Daesh (Islamic State group) off from the international financial system and disrupting its financing are critical to effectively combating this violent terrorist group Lew said in a statement.

"A united international front is vital to achieve that goal" he added.

U.S. ambassador to the UN Samantha Power said that Washington is working on a draft resolution that will consolidate and streamline the council's recent efforts on terror groups financing as well as include new steps to make the sanctions more effective.

She stressed that her country is focused on using every tool in its toolbox to defeat terrorist groups.
