DOHA: The Services and Facilities Committee of the Central Municipal Council (CMC) passed two recommendations on Tuesday urging the chairman of the Council to pass them on to the Ministry of Economy and Commerce and the Public Works Authority (Ashghal).

One recommendation is to earmark special shopping days for families at major commercial centres. The proposal was presented by Nasser Ibrahim Al Muhannadi member representing constituency No. 25. The Council referred the proposal to the services committee for further discussions and to decide what should be done.

The idea of the proposal came based on complaints made by many families in Al Khor and the surrounding areas where large numbers of single workers rush to commercial centres everyday specially during the weekend leading to uneasiness for the families said Al Muhannadi in his proposal. This forces the families to head to commercial centres in Doha causing problems like wasting people’s time and creating traffic problems.

The committee’s recommendation to the Council included earmarking one day in a week for families at each of the commercial complexes and displaying notices at the complexes mentioning the day fixed for the families. The second recommendation which was referred to the chairman of the Council for his approval was based on a proposal made by Abdulrahman Al Khulaifi member representing constituency 10.

The proposal is to establish service stations along the highways every 10km to help motorists who face problems in the case of accidents and damage of vehicles. The services committee after discussing the proposal decided to forward the recommendation to Ashghal after final approval of the Council. The recommendation to Ashghal indicated establishment of service points in the highways for different type of vehicles and parking areas for ambulances and service of public phones.

Utilising the areas between petrol stations and the highway to use them for parking areas and services and such facilities to be included in all future designs of highways said the committee.

Meanwhile the committee held yesterday a meeting to discuss a proposal to build wedding halls in some constituencies
