UAE- ECSSR concludes 36rd annual Security in the Arabian Gulf symposium

ABU DHABI 16th December 2015 (WAM) -- The 3rd Annual Symposium organised by the Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research ECSSR in cooperation with the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies concluded on Tuesday. The symposium "Security in the Arabian Gulf: Migration Technology Media and Change" was held at the ECSSR's office complex in Abu Dhabi on 14th and 15th December.

In his closing remarks Dr. Jamal Sanad Al Suwaidi Director-General of the ECSSR expressed his hope that the recommendations made during the symposium will translate into reality that will enhance Arab Gulf's security against any potential threat.

He said that the papers presented and discussions held during the symposium helped formulate several recommendations to face future challenges and enhance international cooperation and to draw a plan that enables GCC countries to address the multiple dimensions of illegal migration technology media and change for the internal security of GCC countries. They will help strengthen peace and security both in the Arab Gulf and internationally and leverage new technology to increase efficiency of governments in dealing with challenges associated with the growing role of non-state actors in media and paying more attention to economic diversification. All of this will contribute towards creating a comprehensive vision of security with shared challenges and destiny.

Dr. Shaikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Executive Director Isa Cultural Centre Kingdom of Bahrain Major General Staff Pilot Rashad Mohamed Salem Al-Saadi Commander of the National Defence College Rt. Hon. Jack Straw Former Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs in the UK Rt. Hon. Sir Hugh Robertson Former Minister of State for Foreign And Commonwealth Affairs in the UK Lord David Richards Former Chief of the Defence Staff UK and Prof. Alexey Vasiliev Honorary President of the Institute of African Studies Russian Academy of Sciences were among those who attended the symposium.

A number of officers and military figures belonging to the UAE and the GCC countries were also present alongside a large number of diplomats Arab and foreign personalities the public and those interested in GCC security issues.
