Qatar- PM opens paediatric emergency centre


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani opened the renovated Al Sadd Paediatric Emergency Centre of Hamad Medical Corporation yesterday. Prime Minister toured the centre and was briefed on its facilities and services.

DOHA: The Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani yesterday officially opened Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) newly completed expansion of its Paediatric Emergency Center (PEC) in Al Sadd.

Following the opening ceremony the Prime Minister toured the expanded emergency facility and inspected its treatment and procedure rooms and isolation units which were designed to meet the health care needs of children.

He was briefed on the workflow and the state-of-the-art medical systems used at the centre for the evaluation and treatment of patients.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by the Minister of Public Health H E Abdullah bin Khalid Al Qahtani Dr Hanan Al Kuwari Managing Director of HMC and Dr Khalid Al Ansari Medical Director of HMC’s Paediatric Emergency Services.

The expansion sees the center grow by 25 percent with an extra 22 new beds distributed on 13 treatment rooms six triage rooms an emergency procedure room and an isolation unit bringing the total number of beds in the facility to 86. An extra 30 nurses have been hired for a total of 216 nurses and 65 doctors; charged with evaluating and treating the emergency needs of children.

“This expansion supports our efforts to deliver the safest most effective and most compassionate care to each and every one of our pediatric patients. It is an integral component of HMC’s Facilities Master Plan to extend our pediatric health services infrastructure to meet the healthcare needs of the nation” according to Dr Al Kuwari.

“The services and amenities of the new facility will enable further specialised emergency services and provide additional resources and space that will benefit the children and families we serve in Al Sadd and surrounding neighbourhoods” said Dr Al Kuwari.

Dr Khalid Al Ansari said the upgraded facility would reduce waiting time for patients. “The expanded facility allows for a more efficient flow of pediatric patients with additional triage areas and examination rooms and staff contributing to a reduction in wait times” Dr Al Ansari said.

This main PEC in Al Sadd and its satellite stations are geared towards providing highly specialised quality emergency services to pediatric patients seeking immediate care across Qatar.

The Paediatric Emergency Center Al Sadd is located on Suhaim Bin Hamad intersection Mirqaab Al Jadeed Area 39. It is open 24 hours a day seven days a week.
