Qatar- New Port to start functioning from Dec 24

DOHA: Operations at the new Hamad Port will begin on December 24 with limited types of ships and cargoes The Ministry of Transport said yesterday.

Once fully operational Hamad Port’s capacity will be six million containers a year. It will be connected with other GCC countries through road sea and rail networks and this is an additional value for Qatar’s ports in general said a statement.

The port will be able to handle 1.7 million tonnes of general goods one million tonnes of food grains and 500000 vehicles. It will also has a general cargo terminal a multi-use terminal an offshore supply base a coast guard facility and a port marine unit.

The port will also have a centralised customs area a port administrative district vessels inspecting platform 110 m control tower multiple maritime facilities mosque stocks among other facilities. Hamad port will support economic diversification and improve the region’s competitiveness by transforming Qatar into a regional sea trading hub said the ministry.
