34 Muslim countries unite to fight terrorism


(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Thirty-four Muslimcountries decided Monday nightto establish an anti-terrorism alliance with headquartersin SaudiArabia according to theSaudiPress Agency.

SPA said the coalition comes within the context of an anti-terrorismagreement signed by member states of theOrganization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

In a Tuesday statement OIC Secretary-General Iyad Madani said the organization supports all regional and international efforts aimed at fighting terrorism.

Madani said thatthe OIC member states are among “the hardest-hit by terrorism.”

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu praised the new coalition Tuesday stating that it is the strongest answer to thosetrying to linkterrorism toIslam.

Jordanian government spokesman MohammadMomani said his country welcomes the coalition and isready to contribute to its success according to Petra news agency.

Meanwhile the Arab Parliament said in a statement that it is readyto support the coalition.

The anti-terrorism coalition includes Saudi ArabiaJordanUnited Arab Emirates Pakistan BahrainBangladeshBeninTurkey Chad Togo TunisiaDjiboutiSenegalSudanSierra LeoneSomaliaGabonGuineaPalestineComorosQatarCote d'Ivoire Kuwait Lebanon LibyaMaldivesMali MalaysiaEgyptMorocco MauritaniaNiger Nigeria and Yemen.

Neither Iraq nor Syria–whose governments are close to Shia Iran – are members.
