Russian FM discusses terrorism with his US counterpart


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) SAINT PETERSBURG Dec 15 (KUNA) -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday he would discuss with his US counterpart John Kerry issues of countering terrorism besides regional crisis.Interfax News Agency quoted Lavrov as saying ahead of his meeting with Kerry that discussions would focus on means of encountering Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) besides conflicts in Syria Libya Iraq Yemen Afghanistan as well as the Palestinian-Israeli peace process.Lavrov suggested tackling issues related to the Syrian Support Group (SSG) saying that the Russian and American Presidents talked more than once about means of enhancing efforts in fighting terrorism.Settling the conflict in Syria requires implementation of agreements that were reached in Vienna meeting on Syria.Lavrov called on the US side to exercise more pressure on the Ukrainian administration to push the settlement process in eastern Ukraine forward.Kerry expressed his hopes that Lavrov will take part in the suggested upcoming meeting to be held in Washington in December 18 concerning Syria.He also hoped that his discussions with the Russian President Vladimir Putin to be held later would achieve progress.
