Qatar- Canadian certification for CNQ Q IT programmes

DOHA: College of the North Atlantic–Qatar (CNA-Q) has been certified by the Canadian Information for its four Information Technology programmes as Processing Society (CIPS).

CNA-Q’s Information Technology programmes have been awarded a three-year CIPS accreditation for 2015–2017. This designation acknowledges that the College’s educational programmes prepare students to meet the demands of the Computing and Information Systems profession. Completion of accredited computer information systems programmes will assist graduates in pursuing the Information Systems Professional (ISP) designation.

“The international accreditation of our Information Systems diploma programmes is a huge educational advantage for our students and affirmation to our sponsors that we are producing the next generation of Qatar’s leaders. It adds value to the reputation of our credentials as students enter the workforce to fulfil Qatar’s National Vision 2030 of becoming a knowledge-based economy” said Dr Ken MacLeod PresidentCNA-Q.

The School of Information Technology offers four programmes that are customised to meet the needs of employers in Qatar. The two-year diploma programmes Information Systems – Hardware and Information Systems – Software were designed in consultation with industry stakeholders in 2008. An additional year of study was introduced in 2012 adding two three-year diploma programmes in Information Systems – Network and Systems Administration and Information Systems – Web Developer.

The accreditation process began in November 2014 when a team from Canada visited to assess CNA-Q’s suitability for the accreditation through rigorous reviews of curriculum assessments of faculty credentials and deployed infrastructure and interviews with students alumni and industry stakeholders. With these four international accreditations the total number of internationally accredited programmes at CNA-Q rises to 22 programmes across the four Schools of Information Technology Engineering Technology Health Sciences and Business Studies. “Receiving the CIPS international accreditation for our four programmes provides an objective verification that we are delivering quality programmes that meet the needs of Qatar’s workplaces and prepare students for the next stage in their educational journey” said Dr Theodore Chiasson Dean of the School of Information Technology.

CIPS is a professional association providing leadership in information systems and technologies. CIPS provides a code of ethics for members upholds standards of certification for members and encourages educational programme accreditation. This CIPS accreditation was awarded by its autonomous body Computer Science Accreditation Council (CSAC).
