Kuwait- Cabinet hails outcome of 36th GCC summit


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT Dec 14 (KUNA) -- The cabinet has highly appreciated the sincere efforts by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and fellow leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) during the recent 36th GCC summit.Meeting at the Amiri Airport on Monday under chairmanship of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah the cabinet voiced satisfaction with the positive and fruitful outcome of the Riyadh summit.These results reiterated the GCC leaders' keenness on realizing their peoples' expectations in further achievements as well as attaining the goals for which the bloc was established namely reinforcing stability peace and security in the region and the entire world Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Acting Minister of Electricity and Water Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah.The cabinet reviewed the outcome of the 36th Summit of the GCC Supreme Council.In Riyadh the leaders discussed all GCC-related topics besides means of enhancing the blessed march of the bloc in addition to the political economic and social developments the region is experiencing and the implications on the member states.Today's meeting also reviewed the summit's resolutions as comprised in its final communique topped with welcoming Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud's view for consolidating the joint GCC action.The GCC Supreme Council voiced support to the UAE to host the universal exhibition Expo 2020 and Qatar to host the 2022 World Cup.The leaders endorsed the recommendations and reports submitted by the GCC Ministerial Council besides the achievements of the GCC.The summit also approved resolutions taken by the GCC Supreme Defense Council on domains of joint military action. It renewed full rejection of all forms of extremism and terrorism and stressed the member states' commitment to renounce extremist thinking and to remain united to fight terrorism.The final communique reiterated that the GCC countries would carry on with their participation in the international coalition to fight terrorism backing regional and international efforts in this regard.It strongly denounced the terrorist blasts that targeted mosques in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait and those that hit the Kingdom of Bahrain killing innocent security personnel and civilians. It denounced the recent terrorist attacks in France the US Tunisia Egypt Mali Beirut and Baghdad and other places.The GCC Supreme Council reiterated unwavering stances toward regional issues with the Palestinian cause on top. Comprehensive just and permanent peace will not be realized but after a complete Israeli withdrawal from the Palestinian territories and establishing a Palestinian state with east Jerusalem as a capital the leaders stressed.The Council renewed the bloc's firm stance on the continuation of Iran's occupation of the three UAE islands and stressed the latter's sovereignty on them as an integral part of the country.The GCC leaders reiterated the bloc's unwavering stance on Syria's unity stability and territorial integrity lauding Saudi Arabia for hosting a conference for the Syrian opposition recently.They also welcomed the outcome of the Third International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria which Kuwait hosted earlier this year urging donor countries to honor their pledges. The leaders are looking forward for the fourth conference slated for February in London.On Yemen the GCC states expressed support to the victories realized by the popular resistance and the pro-legitimacy army against the Houthis militias and those loyal to former president Ali Abdullah Saleh and the liberation of Aden and other cities.The summit reiterated commitment to Yemen's unity and respect of the country's sovereignty and independence rejecting interference in its internal affairs.Meanwhile the summit stressed support to the UN Security Council resolution 2107/2013 which unanimously decided to refer the file of the Kuwaiti missing and prisoners and the restoration of Kuwaiti properties and national archive to the UN mission UNAMI to follow up this file.The GCC Supreme Council lauded efforts by Saudi King Salman and his wise management of the summit as well as the Saudi people for their hospitality and warm welcome.As the cabinet's started today the ministers were informed of the message from Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev to His Highness the Amir inviting him to attend the international exhibition Expo 2017 in Astana Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Acting Minister of Electricity and Water Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah said.Then His Highness the Prime Minister notified the cabinet on the outcome of the recent UN conference on climate (COP21) held in Paris. Kuwait has reiterated its keenness on curbing emissions at the global gathering.In addition His Highness the Premier apprised the meeting with the outcome of the recent visit to Kuwait by Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev during which the two sides discussed means of boosting bilateral ties in all fields Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah added.The First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah apprised the cabinet of the outcome of his participation in the 3rd session of the Kuwait-Tunisia Joint Higher Commission recently held in Kuwait.The committee approved a host of resolutions and recommendations for fostering bilateral ties in all fields and signed a host of agreements and MoUs.
