Turkey- Kosovo opposition tear gasses parliament again

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Kosovo's opposition released tear gas in the country's assembly again on Monday in protest against Brussels-brokered agreement with Serbia and the government's agreement with Montenegro.

"I personally threw the tear gas"Glauk Konjufca the head of the Vetevendosje (Self-Determination) party'sparliamentary group told reporters.

Over the weekend several government-owned cars were set on fire by an anonymous group of protesters.

The incidents occurred on Saturday between 11pm to midnight in the towns of Peja/Pec Mitrovica Gjilan and Prizren.

These were the latest in a series of violent incidents in Kosovo sparked by the opposition parties’ anger at the recent agreement between Pristina and Belgrade.

The August 25 agreement between Pristina and Belgrade envisages the establishment of an association of Serb-majority municipalities in Kosovo to champion minority Serbs’ interests.

The three opposition parties in Kosovo’s parliament strongly oppose the association claiming it will give Serbs too much power.

The opposition parties also want a border demarcation deal with Montenegro that they consider unacceptable to be withdrawn.

The opposition parties have been obstructing sessions of parliament in protest since the beginning of October.
