Amman chamber exports rise 9 percent


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman Dec.14 (Petra)-- Exports by factories and industrial enterprises registered with the Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI) expanded by 9 per cent in the January-November period of the current year according to fresh data.

The exports surged to JOD 3.83 billion in the 11-month of 2015 compared with JD3.53 billion reported in the same period of last year according to statistics by the ACI.

The significant rise in exports reveals the local industrial sector's ability to withstand challenges arising from regional upheaval.

The overall growth was main driven by stronger chemical and cosmetic exports which edged up by 14 per cent to JOD893 million compared with JOD781 million year-on-year.

Arab markets in Asia and North Africa accounted for more than 50 per cent of exports at JOD2.28 billion.

Iraq whose borders remain sealed to Jordanian exports as Iraqi forces battle the Daesh terrorists in the restive Al-Anbar province accounted for JOD546 million. Iraq remains Jordan top trading partner in terms of exports despite a major drop in the Kingdom's exports to this country.

Other top destinations for Jordanian exports in the past eleven months included Saudi Arabia with JOD517 million India with JOD395 million the US with JOD361 million and the United Arab Emirates with JOD282 million.

Exports included cosmetics chemical and manufacturing industries medical and pharmaceutical supplies as well as foodstuffs agricultural produce and carton .
