Top Asian nations join forces to build USD10b gas pipeline


(MENAFN) Leaders of Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India broke ground on a major USD10 billion gas pipeline forecasted to aid ease energy shortfalls in South Asia, based on reports.

Accordingly, the project is called Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) link, and with an expected annual capacity of 33 billion cubic meters, it will be finished and fully operational by end-2018.

Furthermore, Afghanistan, India and Pakistan have clearly revealed their commitment to the crucial natural gas scheme in spite of the bilateral tensions Delhi and Kabul have with Islamabad.

"We are fully committed to the stable development of the entire region which will develop and nurture in an active and stable manner if we join hands and cooperate," stated the president of Turkmenistan.
