Qatar- Katara lines up events for National Day

DOHA: The Cultural Village Katara has lined up a number of events to mark the National Day on December 18 and 19.

Some 43 activities will be held at Katara as part of its National Day celebrations.

Several important government institutions authorities and associations will be taking part in these activities.

This was disclosed by the General Manager of Katara Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti and the head of Katara’s National Day Organising Committee Abdulrahman Al Tamimi.

Al Sulaiti said that they will mark the great occasion of the National Day by holding events like parade cultural and entertainment shows.

Katara will also honour the iconic Qatari singer Mohammad Al Sai who had first introduced the Qatari Patriotic song ‘My Beloved Qatar’. “We will be asking one of his sons to attend in addition to honouring the song’s musician Abdulaziz Nasser Al Obaidan and the songwriter Abdullah Al Hammadi on December 18 at Katara Amphitheatre at 3.30pm Al Sulaiti added.

A number of workshops and exhibitions were inaugurated at Katara earlier this month as part of preparations to hold National Day celebrations. These events have attracted a large number of visitors.

Al Tamimi pointed out that the two-day festivities will start on December 18 from 1pm and last until 10pm and continue the following day from 10 am until 10pm.

“We are looking forward to a large turnout of visitors from all walks of life to mark the great occasion and take part in the festivities” added Al Tamimi.

The National Day activities will include parade by the Emiri Guard in addition to participation by the Armed Forces through 60 paratroopers.

Qatar’s largest national flag will be unfurled as part of the National Day celebrations at the Cultural Village.

Katara opens a ‘Loyalty Book’ every year to collect visitors’ signatures and last year the book had collected 10000 signatures.

Many institutions will be taking part participate in the activities. For example Vodafone Qatar will be hosting some competitions for the visitors and workshops for children.

The Childhood Cultural Center will be participating with a number of poetry competitions in addition to displaying a small museum titled ‘Modern Qatar’ which will feature some old photographs about Qatar.

Katara in collaboration with the Emiri Guard Ooredoo and Vodafone Qatar will be distributing some gifts to the visitors.

Also a team of motorcycle riders will be providing some important tips to people about how to ride motorcycles and they will also be putting up a show as part of National Day celebrations at Katara.
