11 teachers from Indian schools in Oman win excellence awards

The prestigious 'Navin Asher-Kazi Awards for Excellence in Teaching' were conferred on 11 teachers from Indian schools in Oman at a function organised recently at Indian School Muscat.

H E Indra Mani Pandey the Ambassador of India to the sultanate was the chief guest and Dr Shariffa Khalid Qais al Said expert at the Ministry of Education (MoE) delivered the keynote address.

H E Pandey said that education has undergone a paradigm change and teachers must be equipped with latest trends to be effective transmitters of knowledge.

Dr Shariffa exhorted the teachers never to give up on any student and said that teachers should use different methods to deliver success.

Addressing the gathering Wilson V George chairman Board of Directors appreciated the commitment of teachers in providing value-based education. 'Hardworking and dedicated teachers are the greatest assets of the Indian school system in Oman.'

Sixty-seven teachers were nominated from different Indian schools for the awards.

Five awards each were given to first and second position holders and one special award went to the Apex Centre for Special education.

Winners in each of the categories were Priya Dias (kindergarten Indian School Sohar) Shashikala Prabhat Kumar (primary Indian School Wadi Kabir) P Eskalin Gonsalves (middle Indian School Muscat) Rashmi Kumar (secondary/senior secondary Indian School Seeb) and P V Gopinathan (co-scholastic Indian School Darsait). Special award for the Centre for Special Education went to Joseph Prabhu E.

The second winner in each of the categories were Rajani Anilkumar (kindergarten Indian School Buraimi) Sripriya Sundar (primary Indian School Muscat) Arti Luthra (middle Indian School Seeb) Chidambaram Ramasamy (secondary/senior secondary Indian School Salalah) and Somasundaran M M (co-scholastic Indian School Sur).

Another highlight was a short story writing competition organised for students of Indian schools and 57 entries were received.

The winners were Sreelakshmi B S (Indian School Jaalan) and Jonathan Edwards Zacharias (Indian School Ghubra) in the first category while Shibani Sen (Indian School Ghubra) and Angeline Moses (Indian School Seeb) in the second one.
