PARIS Dec 12 (KUNA) -- Representatives of 195 countries taking part in UN Framework Convention for Climate Change (UNFCC) approved Saturday a new agreement that would stop global warming.

The agreement concluded following around two weeks of marathon negotiations called for controlling earth temperature below two degrees Celsius to 1.5 Celsius in order to lower climate change-related risks.
It said industrial countries which were responsible for pollution would commit USD 100 billion every year as of 2020 in order to help developing countries finance their climate policies and transform dependence on fossil fuel to environmental-friendly economies.
The Paris accord which would replace the Kyoto Protocol by the year 2020 is the first global commitment to reduce greenhouse emissions with the major objective of stopping global warming.
French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said the agreement was "ambitious and legally binding." He said the agreement was "fair and balanced and takes into consideration capabilities of countries to address climate change." Fabius commended the determination of countries to reach an agreement. "This is a huge work and an important decision for humanity." (pickup previous) amm.bs
