Qatar- Awqaf Ministry gains QR61m from minors' properties


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) DOHA: The return on investment from the properties of minors the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has been handling was QR61m last financial year (April 2014 to March 2015).

An authority within the Ministry looks after the properties of minors who have no guardians.

Called the General Authority for Minors’ Affairs (at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs) it earned more than QR61m in profits on the investments of properties of minors it manages.

The care and guidance section of the authority provided some 4836 services to the minors.

The Zakat Fund collected more than QR158m during financial year 2014-15 through its offices across the country. Donations made by people which were directly credited to the bank account of the Zakat Fund were not included in the amount.

The Fund is sponsoring 4648 families and received 19518 requests for help this year. The Fund is also supporting 8067 schools students and 908 college students to continue their studies.

The Ministry provided scholarships to 43 students in 19 countries and invested more than QR314m this year and spent some QR141m on the management of mosques education and healthcare centres and sponsoring needy families and orphans.

The Ministry received 46 new mosques including some multi-storey ones all over the country this year Qatar News Agency (QNA) reports.

Last year 1930 people from 63 nationalities embraced Islam at Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Centre which is being run by the Ministry. The Centre conducted 154 courses for teaching Arabic. Some 2832 people benefited from its programmes.
