Jordan participates in freedom of press and human rights meeting


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman Dec. 12 (Petra) -- The government coordinator for human rights Basel Tarawneh Saturday said that Jordan attaches great attention to the freedom of opinion and expression which was embodied in the national legislation that include international conventions ratified by the Kingdom and became part of its national system.

During a meeting of regional experts on freedom of press and human rights at the Islamic Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) headquarters in Rabat Morocco Tarawneh said the meeting is of great importance being deals with dilemmas facing the march of human rights in various courtiers of the world.

He said Jordan approved on international conventions on human rights and implemented legislation and practices to promote freedom of expression and human rights as the Constitution guarantees freedom of expression opinion and press.

Besides being a party to the Arab Charter on Human Rights Jordan also approved the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership in addition to its accession to the Open Government Partnership He added.

He noted that Jordan was the first country in the Middle East and North Africa to adopt a law that guarantees the right to access to information.
