Israel not to pass up USD 1.8bn benefit in Egyptian gas


(MENAFN) Israel will not pass up on USD 1.8bn awarded in compensation for Egypt halting a natural gas supply agreement in 2012, although the two nations want a way out of the argument.

However, Cairo would be capable according to order by a global negotiator to pay USD 1.76bn in benefit to state-owned Israel Electric Corp (IEC) and would stop talks on future gas imports.

Moreover, IEC, which wanted USD 4bn in advantage, cleared that with the Egyptian supplies reduce it was obligated to burn more expensive fuel to produce electricity.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told parliament's economics committee, that "I believe that we will reach a solution due to the common interests of both sides."
