Qatar Helps Tunisia Politically and Economically Tunisian PM


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Doha December 09 (QNA) - Tunisian Prime Minister Habib Essid has affirmed strong ties and joint cooperation between his country and Qatar saying that they had developed at all political and economic levels since the Tunisian revolution five years ago.

In this context the Tunisian Prime Minister noted that Qatar had stood by Tunisia and helps it politically and economically during the transition phase after the revolution.

In a press conference held Wednesday evening on the occasion of his visit to Doha leading his country's delegation to the 6th session of Qatar-Tunisia Joint Commission Essid said that the meeting constitutes a great opportunity to support cooperation between the two countries and strengthen the close relations on all political economic and security and investment fields.

He noted that the agreements signed after the meeting will work to boost further cooperation ties between the two countries saying that there will be a continuous follow-up of the implementation of what has been agreed upon by a committee at the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He explained that his visit to Doha was an opportunity to discuss with Qatari officials the current situation in the region stressing congruent political views between Tunisia and Qatar on many issues in particular Yemen Syria and Libya as the two countries agree that a political solution to these issues is the best and the most effective solution .

As part of further promoting bilateral relations between the two states Essid announced that the Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi will visit Qatar in the near future indicating that there are still arrangements for determining the date of the visit that will be as soon as possible.

He also spoke about the most important agreements memoranda of understanding and programs that have been signed today as well as memorandums of understanding which were signed yesterday by Qatari businessmen who have shown a great willingness for further investment in Tunisia.

The Tunisian Prime Minister pointed out that the trade volume between the two countries amounted to TND 40 million ($20 million) and Qatar has recorded investments in Tunisia amounting to TND 2.1 billion (US$1 billion) looking to the increase of these figures in the future .

He praised support of the Qatar Friendship Fund in Tunisia since 2013 served as a message of affection and solidarity of the Qatari people and their wise leadership to the Tunisian youth where the fund has donated a gift worth $ 79 million and contributed to the creation of 4300 jobs directly and indirectly in Tunisia.

He also praised Qatar's role in recovering all the looted funds and the last one is holding 4th session of the Arab Forum on Asset Recovery which is currently kicked off in Tunis today with a significant support from the State of Qatar.(END)
