Illinois man pleads guilty to providing support to ISIL

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON Dec 9 (KUNA) -- Jonas Edmonds 30 pleaded guilty on Wednesday to one count of providing support to ISIL by making plans to 'wage violence on behalf of ISIL' said a statement from the Department of Justice.Edmonds assisted his cousin Hasan Edmonds to travel to the Middle East to fight on behalf of ISIL. Jonas intended to carry an attack on the US after his cousin's departure.'Jonas Edmonds admitted that he expressed his support and excitement for Hasan Edmonds' travel believing that anyone who supported a mujahid was a mujahid himself' said the statement.'The cousin devised a plan for Jonas Edmonds to carry out an armed attack at the US Army National Guard base in Joliet Illinois during which time Hasan Edmonds was a member of the Army National Guard and had been training at the Joliet installation' the statement revealed.Jonas Edmonds faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and up to eight years for a false statement charge.Hasan Edmonds was also charged with conspiracy to provide support to a terrorist organization and also a count of providing support to the group.
