Qatar- QC official calls for more schools

DOHA: Qatar needs more schools other educational institutions and training centres to meet the requirements of the fast growing population of the country said a senior official of the Qatar Chamber (QC).

He was addressing a visiting commercial educational delegation led by Simon Bedford from the UK-based Trade and Investment Education and Corporate.

“Qatar government is keen to develop education and training sector” said Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Obaidly Board Member of Qatar Chamber (QC) and Secretary-General of Business Council. “There is a need to establish more schools educational institutions and training centres in Qatar to keep pace with growing population of the country” he added.

“QC encourages investments in private education sector. Many business delegations come to Qatar looking for opportunities. We are looking for serious business partners to establish long-term joint ventures here and get advantages provided by the government like finance and other facilities” said Al Obaidly. The delegation comprised 40 representatives from universities colleges and other education centers in the UK. The visit was intended to study the education and training opportunities in Qatar.

“Qatar plays a great role in education. There are large numbers of Qatari students studying in UK and there are many UK-based private firms operating in Qatar. Private sector plays a key role in education. With a lot of expansion in educational sector it facilitates an atmosphere for companies to start their businesses. Qatari government is willing to provide quality education and develop potential through advanced education” said Mohammed Bin Twar Al Kuwari Vice President of QC.

“Qatar has a potential for investments and there are a lot opportunities especially in the field of education” said Amanda Selvaratnam Director of Training and Development at University of York who is also Director of the Training Gateway a UK- based firm. “We are looking forward to working in partnership with the firms in Qatar on a long term basis” she added.

She however said her company has no plans to set up any institutes here but is interested in providing training to teachers in educational institutes in Qatar.
