Islam Is the World's Fastest Growing Religion: Research

(MENAFN- Morocco World News) Islam currently the second largest religion in the world is the fastest-growing major religion in the world according to the Pew Research Center.

Despite the negative image that is being propagated by Western media after ISIS and other extremist groups committed heinous acts of violence in the name of Islam the number of Muslims is expected to exceed the number of Christians by the end of this century.

By 2050 the research expect the number of Muslims and Christians to be nearly even with 2.8 billion of Muslims (30% of the world’s population) and 2.9 billion of Christians ( 31% of the world’s population).

According to the Research projections Muslims are expected to increase by 73% while Christians are projected to increase at a slower pace of about 35%.

'The Muslim population in Europe also is growing; we project 10% of all Europeans will be Muslims by 2050' the Pew Research Center said.

While the Muslim community (most of them are immigrants) make up just 'less than 1% of the U.S. adult population' the projections of the Pew research estimates that 'Muslims will make up 2.1% of the U.S. population by the year 2050.'

The same source said that the number of Christians will decline while Jews the second largest religious group in the US will be surpassed by Muslims.

The research shows that two major factors are behind the rapid projected growth of Islam. First Muslims have more children than members of the seven groups analyzed in the study.

'Muslim woman has an average of 3.1 children significantly above the next-highest group (Christians at 2.7) and the average of all non-Muslims (2.3)' the research found.

The second factor lies in the high fertility rates among Muslims who are the youngestof all major religious groups with a median age of 23 years old as of 2010 .
