Maraya Art Centre and 1971 Design Space takes part in Durar Programme

SHARJAH 9th December 2015 (WAM) -- Maraya Art Centre and 1971 Design Space conclude their fruitful tenure at this year's Durar Programme on Thursday 10th of December. The programme which was set up to foster creativity and technical knowledge in the field of contemporary design and crafts took place from 6th - 7th December at Espacio Espana in Algeria is being held on 9th - 10th December at La Maison Des Arts in Tunisia.

Developed by Creative Dialogue Association (CDA) this year's Durar Programme was divided into four pillars: Organisation and management Education and training Creative Industries and Contemporary Art and Design. Maraya and 1971 contributed to the Contemporary Art and Design Pillar which comprised a series of panel discussions and workshops.

Of the event Maraya Art Centre's Director Giuseppe Moscatello said "The 2015 Durar Programme offered us a unique chance to exchange ideas debate discuss and learn with like-minded people from all over the world. Being successful in the art world is reliant in part on being able to tap into the Zeitgeist and respond to events and trends; programmes like Durar enable us to develop our knowledge and understanding that much further an opportunity which will have a positive impact on our work and the exhibitions we develop.

Moscatello participated in a panel discussion alongside Banafsajeel founder Noor Al-Dabbagh on day one of the programme examining the 'Role of Contemporary Art and Design in promoting Local Crafts'. Moscatello and Al-Dabbagh were representing the international experts on the topic and were joined by local experts working in the area. Following the discussion Moscatello and Mouza Al Matrooshi conducted a workshop on 'Curating Contemporary Art and Design exhibitions'.

Day two of the programme which - as with day one - was the same in Tunisia and Algeria saw Al-Dabbagh leading a workshop on human centred design. Following that Moscatello Al-Dabbagh and Al Matrooshi teamed up for a round table discussion on 'Contemporary Art and Design'. They were joined by local experts to form conclusions about the topics of discussion that were covered throughout the programme.
