German President visits Azraq Refugee C
AMMAN 8th December 2015 (WAM)--The German President Joachim Gauck on Tuesday paid a visit to the Azraq Refugee Camp which shelters 28000 displaced Syrians and was briefed by UNHCR's deputy representative in Jordan Paul Stromberg on the services provided by the camp Jordan News Agency (Petra) has reported.
The UNHCR estimated its expenditure during 2015 by about $24 million 17 millions of which will be allocated to establish a power network inside the camp while the remaining amount will be spent on health services and essential relief materials to enhance the services provided to refugees Stromberg said.
Security Director at the camp Colonel Atef Omoush said the camp spreads over an area of about 15 square kilometers and encompasses 8029 residential units a hospital with 130 beds and two schools operating in two-shift system each can accommodate about 5000 students.
The Azraq camp was constructed at a cost of $45 million including street paving ready-made houses hospitals water systems and a number of police stations.
It is supervised by the High Commissioner for Syrian refugees in cooperation with the UNHCR.
The German President also visited a Syrian family in the camp and listened from them on their conditions and the services provided to them.
