Kuwait- Obama meets with UN's Security Council
WASHINGTON Dec 7 (KUNA) -- US President Barack Obama met Monday with ambassadors of the 15 United Nations Security Council members to discuss a wide range of the council's agenda White House said.
In a press statement the White House said that Obama underscored during the meeting the critical role the Security Council plays addressing threats to international peace and security in the 21st century.
"From Africa to Asia to the Middle East the Council's work to promote peace and security can contribute to the well-being of people around the world and help to address some of the most pressing challenges facing the international community" he said.
Obama then commended the Security Council for "the new ways it has addressed pertinent issues" including human rights infectious diseases and international terrorism. (end) yt.hb
