Doha: Vision International School KG2 students attended the production of Peter Pan play at Katara Drama Theatre.

It was their first field trip and the children learned about the importance of friendship teamwork and how to solve problems — life skills key to establishing a foundation for lifelong learning.

The students had a great time responding to the actors as the magical story unfolded onstage.

While the play is based on fantasy it captured the students’ imagination and creativity which are two essential components for creating stimulating learning environments in the classroom. The play provided students with an experience outside the formal classroom learning environment and was an example of ‘experiential expeditionary learning’ or using local community resources to learn about life. Upon returning to the school the experience provided teachers and students with opportunities to extend learning in the classroom. The students also learnt another important life skill — the etiquette of being respectful and responsible members of an audience.

The skill involves listening watching focusing and processing the evolving plot and character development of the play.

The school strives to nurture personal integrity through the development of intellectual and personal character using ‘experiential expeditionary learning’ and other experiences including an appreciation for fine and performing arts.
