Qatar- QNHRC Gets 'A status' Awarded by ICC


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Doha December 05 (QNA) - The International Coordinating Committee for National Human Rights Institutions (ICC) which is based in Geneva has awarded Qatar National Human Rights Committee ( QNHRC) (A status) for the second time in a row for a period of five years ending by the end of 2020.

In a press statement on this occasion Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee said that this status is granted to national institutions which enjoy impartiality independency and credibility.

"The National Human Rights Committee is one of the few institutions in the Arab world and the Middle East that have been awarded such a high status Dr. Al Marri said adding that obtaining the highest status is an achievement which would not come out of the blue" pointing out that the ICC looks at a number of terms conditions and practices that need to be provided by each national human rights institution in order to be classified and approved.

Dr. Al-Marri said that the State of Qatar has created a fertile and favorable environment that commensurate with the conditions for the establishment of the Human Rights Committee noting that the international coordinating body has looked at not less than 20 standard and measures within what is known as the "Paris Principles" the most important of which are conditions of membership independency and immunity in addition to infrastructure staffing and budget the Committee application of its 13 tasks mandates and terms of reference which are stated in law No. 17 of 2010 of its organization besides the Committee's role in encouraging the government to join international conventions and the application of the recommendations of the treaty and the related universal periodic review mechanisms he underlined.
