Turkey- We have to remove dual headed system Erdoan says

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Turkish PresidentRecep Tayyip Erdoanhas said the country’s “dual-headed system” of rule has to be removed referring to the powers held by the president and the prime minister who both come to their positions through elections.
“We have to remove this duality. Otherwise regardless of how much you like each other or how long you have worked together in the past there may become problems” Erdoan told reporters while onboard a plane returning to Turkey from Qatar on Dec. 3.
Erdoan also referred to France’s semi-presidential system as a good example for Turkey.
Responding to a question over the possibility of a president elected from the ranks of a political party Erdoan said that could be a solution if no amendment could be achieved.
“But when a party-member president system is on the table then it would be a different version of France’s system. That would bring a different strength too” he added.
The president also said any amendment to the system should be voted on in a referendum as well.
Recalling that the government’s program included transforming the parliamentarian system into presidential one Erdoan said the government did not have the power to realize that transition without the support of opposition parties.
“But this can be done with the support of other parties in the parliament or an amendment of the constitution in a referendum. Even though a constitutional amendment is done in this respect this has to be voted on in a referendum” he said adding the people’s vote was necessary even if parliament made changes on this issue.
Erdoan who was Turkey’s first president to be elected through a direct vote has advocated a switch to a “Turkish-style” presidential system and pressed the government to prioritize this system change.
