Sacred Heart School (www.sacredheartkingston.com) a private Catholic co-educational school for students in preschool through grade 12 is pleased to announce that it will participate in this year’s Climate Lab Program offered through the Manomet Organization in partnership with Technical Education Research Centers (TERC) of Cambridge.

The program funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation is dedicated to connecting science and students to their communities.  The Climate Lab Program teaches science educators how their students can collect data on biological indicators of climate change.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the Manomet Organization on this project” said Program Director Dylan Collins. “This program will better prepare the students our next generation of leadership how to understand and respond to the already apparent effects of climate change.”

A climate lab or “research transect” will be set up on the Sacred Heart High School campus for long term research. Throughout the school year students will have hands-on use of field equipment in order to create a database of biological indicators that contribute to climate change.  Students will benefit greatly from this experiential learning as they are guided by their teachers and scientists in the field.  Their research will help to contribute to a nation-wide science database.

“Inspiring students and engaging students is at the core of this program” said Sacred Heart School President Pamela Desmarais.  “We’re proud of our successful mission to integrate educational technology throughout our curriculum as a tool to enhance and enrich the teaching and learning process.”
