Qatar Museums to launch two books


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) DOHA: Qatar Museums (QM) will launch two books — Qatari Kitchen and 99 Domes — at its booth at the 26th Doha International Book Fair at Qatar National Convention Centre tomorrow evening.

Written by Qatari writer Aisha Al Tamimi Qatari Kitchen gives a panoramic view of the architecture of Qatari homes focussing on the essential space of the kitchen. 99 Domes by Qatari author Ibrahim Mohamed Jaidah is a rich visual and spatial journey of the masjid highlighting design intricacies that merge magnificence and simplicity in a unique harmony. In collaboration with cultural organisations QM will host creative workshops and book discussions inspired by two of its special exhibitions from 2015 and workshops ‘Olympic Sports’ and ‘Ottoman Costumes for families’.

At the ‘The Hunt’ workshop visitors will discover the importance and symbolism of the falcon in Islamic Art as inspired by Museum of Islamic Art’s (MIA) exhibition ‘The Hunt: Princely Pursuits in Islamic Lands’. Visitors will be able to reproduce a symmetrical design of two Ottoman falcons and other creative activities. Visitors to the ‘Marvellous Creatures’ workshop will be able to make their animal masks in a one-day workshop inspired by MIA’s exhibition ‘Marvellous Creatures: Animal Fables in Islamic Art’.

There will be creative workshops by QM for adults including ‘Arabic Calligraphy and the Quran: A Shared Journey’; ‘Effective Article Writing Skills’; ‘Me My Child and Reading’; and ‘Writing Short Stories’.

Sessions for primary and secondary schoolchildren include ‘Journey Through Time for Kids’; ‘Make Your Book Jacket’; and ‘Discover Olympics Sports World’. There will also be interactive story-reading sessions ‘Story Time with Maktaba’ and ‘The legend of Mai and Gheilan’.
