The Sikh temple reverberated with prayers and mesmerising hymns during the celebrations and langar (meals) was served throughout the day. Eminent raagi jatha (troupe of singers) Bhai Chamanjeet Singh Lal of Delhi and several other popular religious singers were invited to Dubai especially for the celebrations.

The Dubai Gurudwara saw over 30000 devotees during the three-day Gurpurab celebrations.

History

Guru Nanak Devji was born in Talwandi also known as Rai Bhoe-ki Talwandi in 1469. The village is now known as Nankana Sahib and is near Lahore Pakistan. He travelled far and wide during his lifetime including regions such as Arabia Mesopotamia (Iraq) Ceylon (Sri Lanka) Afghanistan Turkey Burma and Tibet; new records now show even as far as Europe and in particular Italy! As Guru's Birth Anniversary (also called Guru Nanak Jayanti) is lunar linked it is celebrated on the full moon in November.

He died in 1539. The name "Nanak" was used by all subsequent Gurus who wrote sacred text in the Sikh holy scripture called the Guru Granth Sahib. So the second Sikh Guru Guru Angad is also called the "Second Nanak" or "Nanak II". It is believed by the Sikhs that all subsequent Gurus carried the same message as that of Guru Nanak and so they have used the name "Nanak" in their holy text instead of their own name and hence are all referred to as the "Light of Nanak."

Guru Nanak is also called Satguru Nanak Baba Nanak Nanak Shah Faqir Bhagat Nanak Nanak Kalandar etc. by different people of religions and cults.
