Qatar- Communication services for mobile satellite to improve
(MENAFN- The Peninsula) DOHA: Qatar recently signed on an international treaty on ‘Revised Radio Regulations’ in Geneva for the better and efficient use of the country’s radio-frequency spectrum. The initiative will make it possible to ensure high quality radio communication services for mobile and satellite communications.
The recently concluded ‘World Radiocommunication Conference 2015’ (WRC-15) in Switzerland organised by International Telecommunications Union (ITU) addressed more than 40 agenda items related to frequency allocation and frequency sharing for the efficient use of spectrum and orbital resources.
The treaty will help ensure high quality radio communication services for mobile and satellite communications maritime and aeronautical as well as for scientific purposes related to the environment meteorology and climatology.
Mohammed Ali Al Mannai President of Communications Regulatory Authority signed the ITU’s ‘Final Acts’ on behalf of Qatar. The Qatar delegation played a major role in the discussions and took the lead in helping to facilitate regional and global coordination to achieve consensus between administrations on a number of complex issues according to a statement yesterday.
The delegation includes representatives from the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology Communications Regulatory Authority Ministry of Defence Ministry of Interior the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office and other international organisations in Geneva and Qatar Satellite Company.
It is important to note that this year 150 countries out of the 154 authorised countries who attended WRC-15 signed the treaty making it a significant step towards improvements in the management of radio-frequency spectrum.
Some of the key outcomes of the WRC-15 included: allocation of additional spectrum resources for mobile broadband services in various frequency bands including giving full protection to television broadcasting as well as to aeronautical radio navigation systems.
Identification of spectrum to facilitate mobile broadband communications for robust and reliable mission critical emergency services in public protection and disaster relief such as police fire ambulances and other. WRC-15 also adopted a revised version of Resolution 12 on Assistance and Support to Palestine which resolves to continue assistance to Palestine and to enable Palestine to obtain and manage the spectrum required to operate telecommunications networks and wireless services.
