Kuwait to Host Training on Regional Emergency Response Plan

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) The GCC Emergency Management Center is organizing a practical training on the implementation of the "Regional Radiological and Nuclear Emergency Preparedness and Response (RRNEPR) Plan" in the State of Kuwait from December 6 to 8.

More than 50 participants from all member states will attend the exercise. Chairman of the GCC emergency Management Center Dr. Adnan Al Tamimi said that it is the fifth exercise that is being implemented on the GCC nuclear plan, explaining that the center performs an annual training in order to maintain the readiness of the GCC countries in this area.

Experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will oversee the implementation of the exercise this year to ensure conformity of the elements of the exercise with international standards, and to give technical feedback in order to raise the efficiency of exercises in the future, Al Tamimi said.

He added that the center is developing a five-year plan starting in January 2016, aims to operate at full operational capacity with trained technical cadres at the highest levels, and to be internationally approved as a reference for the management of regional disasters.

The GCC ministerial council adopted the GCC emergency plan in 2014, and referred it to the GCC Emergency Management Center for implementation.

The GCC Emergency Management Center was officially founded in Kuwait in December 2013 aiming at enhancing and coordinating the GCC countries efforts and capacities in the field of emergency management.
