Oman has gone live on the AudioCompass mobile app which gives users informative audio content on more than 80 sites of interest to tourists.

The Ministry of Tourism (MoT) partnered with AudioCompass an Indian company that is the official audio tour partner of the Government of India Ministry of Tourism and also provides personal audio travel guide for Singapore and Bhutan. In Oman AudioCompass covers more than 80 points of interest with detailed audio content across destinations including Muscat Sharqiyah Dakhliyah Batinah Dhofar and Musandam.

AudioCompass is a mobile app available on iOS and Android that serves as an audio guide to travellers. The application provides high quality informative detailed curated audio-based content for over 1200 tourist points of interest. AudioCompass is integrated in holiday packages sold by MakeMyTrip Thomas Cook Yatra.com and Cox & Kings.

Commenting on the inclusion of Oman in AudioCompass Gautam Shewakramani founder AudioCompass said 'AudioCompass in Oman is a leap forward to empowering travellers visiting the country. We are thrilled that Oman's Ministry of Tourism has chosen to support us in bringing an authentic Omani experience to travellers via their mobile phones.'

Lubaina Sheerazi India representative of MoT said 'AudioCompass helps the growing breed of independent travellers from India gain deeper understanding of a culturally and historically rich and vibrant destination like Oman. People want high quality personal and authentic experiences and our partnership with AudioCompass helps facilitate this.'

AudioCompass' vision is to make high quality travel experiences accessible to all travellers regardless of budget. Talking about his startup Shewakramani was quoted as saying that he found himself whizzing past sights without learning about them and spending time in tourist shops. 'I read history off my iPhone screen when I should have been looking around.

I felt that none of these options allowed me to hear and absorb stories of the destination in a convenient cost effective manner. With that as an inspiration AudioCompass was born in 2011 when the Archaeological Survey of India made us the official audio guide provider at some of the most important Unesco sites such as the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort.'
