Afghan election official survives suicide attack


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) A regional chief of the Afghan Independent Election Commission (IEC), Awlia Khan Rodwal, survived a suicide attack in the capital city Kabul that killed one of his body guards on Saturday, said officials.
Crime branch head of the 101st Asmayee Police Zone, Faridoon Ubaidi, told the media that the suicide bomber targeted the vehicle of regional IEC chief in Shahra Telayee area of Karta-i-Naw locality.
Rodwal survived the attack but one of his bodyguards was killed, he confirmed. The driver of the vehicle and a woman received injuries in the attack. IEC spokesman, Noor Mohammad Noor, also confirmed the attack, saying that the IEC official had escaped unhurt in the incident.
Security forces cordoned off the area and a probe into the incident went underway. No group has claimed the responsibility of the attack so far but Taliban rebels have targeted government officials several times in the past.
